He could always tell the moment it started raining.

“Stop.” A single word was enough to put an end to an evening of planning and coaxing –seducing his mind said- of convincing, perhaps. Hakkai had never been difficult to ‘convince’ to come to bed, but it was something of a game for the two of them. Hunter became hunted for an evening. He got what he wanted and Hakkai… well, he was never quite sure what Hakkai got, but he consoled himself with knowing that whatever Hakkai was looking for, he could find it in Sha Gojyo.

Nine nights out of ten, when he felt like hunting and Hakkai felt like being stalked, things worked out just to plan. Better a warm bed with a willing body, preferably a willing body that he wouldn’t have to worry about walking out on in the morning, than a cold futon.

On those nights it rained, though…

Always a whispered ‘stop, like Hakkai didn’t really expect him to listen even though he always did. The tension that crept into Hakkai’s shoulders, that always made Gojyo seriously consider going back to the futon that they’d never gotten rid of despite sharing a bed for months. It was comfy enough, really, and decidedly less crowded. He sometimes wondered if Hakkai was aware of just how much more present she was when it rained, but that was stupid. She was always there for Hakkai.

He wondered which of them was more real to Hakkai, whether ‘Gojyo’ wasn’t just some fever dream that Gonou waited to wake up from. To get back to her. Gojyo had long decided he didn’t really want to know.

He eyed the futon for another minute before wrapping his arms around Hakkai’s shoulders and burying his face in Hakkai’s hair, tension and ghosts be damned. He couldn’t stop the stupid smile when he felt Hakkai finally relax, curling against him with a sigh that nearly broke Gojyo’s heart. He also couldn’t help feeling more than a little triumphant. Maybe this was all just a game, but Gojyo had never liked to lose.
